Connect your own domain
Put your published app on a domain you already own, with Pro.
Every published app lives at its own address ending in yorki.app. With Pro you can also put it on a domain you already own, such as example.com or shop.example.com. Both addresses keep working.
Connect a domain
- Publish your app. You can connect a domain before your first publish too. It goes live within a minute of the publish.
- Open Settings, then Domain. Type the domain you want to use, such as
example.comorapp.example.com, and press Connect. - Add the records at your DNS provider. The pane lists the records to add, with a copy button for each value. Sign in where you manage your domain's DNS (often the company you bought the domain from) and add them exactly as shown.
- Wait for the check. Yorki checks every minute. The status walks from "Waiting for your DNS change" to "DNS found, certificate pending" to "Active". It usually takes a few minutes, sometimes up to a day. The certificate for
httpsis issued for you, there is nothing else to set up.
When the domain is live, you get an email, and the pane shows Open for the new address.
One domain can be connected to each app. Your app always stays reachable at its yorki.app address as well.
A bare domain and www
When you connect a bare domain such as example.com, Yorki connects www.example.com with it. The pane then lists two CNAME records, one named @ for the bare domain and one named www. Visitors who type the www address are sent on to the bare domain.
Some DNS providers do not allow a CNAME record on the bare domain. Many offer a record called ALIAS or ANAME, or "CNAME flattening", which does the same job. If yours offers none of these, connect www.example.com instead and set up a forward from the bare domain to it at your provider.
If you type www.example.com, the pane suggests connecting example.com instead, so that both work.
A subdomain
A subdomain such as shop.example.com needs one CNAME record named after it (shop), pointing at the value the pane shows. The rest of your domain, such as your main website or your email, is not touched.
When the status does not change
- "Waiting for your DNS change". The record is not visible yet. If the pane says what your DNS points at now, that record is still in place: change or remove it so the name points only at the value shown. Changes at some providers take up to a few hours to spread.
- "Could not be verified". Yorki stopped checking after seven days, or the domain was refused. Fix the record, then press Check now to start again.
- "Needs attention". The domain still works, but the daily check found a problem, for example a record that changed. You also get an email. Check that the records are still in place.
Check now asks for a check within the next minute, at most once a minute.
A domain used by another account
A domain can belong to one Yorki account at a time. If the domain you type is connected to another Yorki account, or was until recently, the pane shows one extra record: a TXT record named _yorki-verify. Add it at your DNS provider to prove the domain is yours. Once Yorki finds it, the domain moves to your app and the other account is told by email. If the record is not found within seven days, the request lapses and you can start again.
Moving a domain to another app
Connect the same domain from another of your apps and it moves there. Nothing changes at your DNS provider.
Remove a domain
Open Settings, then Domain, and press Remove. The domain stops showing your app within a minute, and your yorki.app address keeps working. For 30 days after you remove it, nobody else can connect the domain without the verification record, and you can connect it again at once.
On Free
Custom domains come with Pro. If your plan moves to Free, a connected domain is paused: it stops showing your app and the pane says so. Your app stays live at its yorki.app address. When you are on Pro again, the domain comes back within a minute, with nothing to change at your DNS provider. See Plans.
The Yorki badge
The Built with Yorki badge shows on your yorki.app address only. Visitors on your own domain do not see it.
Sign-in emails
Emails your app's cloud sends, such as account confirmations and password resets, link to your app's yorki.app address. Signing in works on both addresses, and a visitor signs in separately on each.
